End of a Chapter
Our time at 58 Broadway is coming to an end. We’re disappointed that our longer-term aspirations to buy this building didn’t work out, bewildered by what it means to be in partnership with property management, and heavy hearted at missed opportunities in our downtown mountain home.

We’ve learned some valuable firsthand lessons about the complicated dynamics between landlords and tenants. And like so many, we are feeling the ripple effects of how the storm continues to impact so many good intentions, favoring profits over people as the driving force for change.
This is only the end of one chapter in our story. We’ve built some momentum towards the kind of people-powered change that we all want to see in WNC and are confident that will only grow in the years to come. Stay tuned for all that comes next as we turn the page...

Join us for an affordable housing advocacy event
The People's Place AVL has been working to support Safe Shelter and Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, which are working hard everyday (along with other local organizations) to address our local housing crisis. The three of us are co-hosting a series of events on November 20 and 23 to offer updates and advocacy opportunities connected to the $28 million Asheville has earmarked for affordable multi-family housing construction. Click here to read more and RSVP.

We hope you'll stop by this Saturday 11/22 to join in our celebratory closing. It's been an eventful year, and we're excited to turn the page and take our mission into new spaces.
